FAQ: TEC’S EDUCATOR ADVISORY BOARD (EAB)

  1. What is the EAB?

In addition to the Board of Directors and Executive Advisory Committee, the Educator Advisory Board (“EAB”) is one of three governing bodies responsible for leading the organization and its members. The EAB consists of 6-10 educators who serve for a term of two years with an optional third year extension. These individuals play an integral role in member recruitment while also ensuring TEC programming is maximally relevant and impactful for members.

  2. Who is eligible to join the EAB?

EAB members must be full-time educators who are active members of The Educator Collective and have attended a minimum of one TEC event in the prior year. The board primarily consists of classroom teachers but may also include educators such as principals or other school leaders.

  3. What time commitment is required?

The next cohort will serve a two-year term from September 2023 through August 2025 with the option for a third year. Members must attend each of up to three EAB meetings (60-90 minutes each; typically held on Saturday mornings in August, January, and May) in addition to a minimum of four TEC events per year. Members may also participate in ad hoc committees. The total annual time commitment is approximately 15-25 hours per year.

  4. What are the responsibilities of EAB members?

EAB members are the primary faces and voices of TEC and therefore critical to the organization’s mission and brand. EAB members are expected to positively represent the organization at all times. In addition, specific responsibilities include supporting TEC member recruitment, informing programming, co-hosting TEC events, and participating in ad hoc committees as needed.

  5. What are the benefits of serving on the EAB?

Serving on the EAB is an invaluable leadership opportunity through which members can make a direct, positive impact on their colleagues and the education profession as a whole. EAB members have regular opportunities to network with elite educators and community leaders. The EAB also receives free VIP memberships in TEC including access to early registration for events.

  6. How are members selected?

Interested educators should submit an application by April 2, 2023. Applications will be reviewed in two stages by a committee of TEC’s current EAB members, staff, and Board of Directors. Final selections will be made by TEC’s Board of Directors in May.
